Grant for Research and Development

Grant for Research and Development provides funding to help individuals and SMEs in Cornwall develop technologically innovative products and services.

Grants for Research and Development are delivered by the Technology Strategy Board. The scheme will support R&D projects which have the potential to stimulate economic growth in the UK and offer significant rewards. In contrast to the previous programme offered by the South West RDA, grant for R&D funding is offered to single companies. There are three types available. These include:

Proof of market grant, which help companies test the commercial potential of an innovative idea for a new technology. Funding available: up to £25,000 for a maximum of nine months and up to 60% of total project costs may be funded

Proof of concept, which help companies assess the commercial and technical feasibility of new technologies. Funding available: a maximum of £100,000 up to 18 months, and up to 60% of total project costs may be funded

Development of prototype, which helps you develop low-cost prototypes of new products and solutions. Funding available: a maximum of £250,000 up to 2 years and up to 35% of total project costs for medium enterprises, or up to 45% for small and micro enterprises, may be funded..

Who is eligible?

  • Pre Start-ups or existing SMEs from all sectors across the UK may apply
  • Companies that are developing innovative products or solutions that can be brought to market with the help of a Grant for Research and Development
All applications are assessed by independent technical specialists.
