Partech Instruments
Measuring water pollution is Partech Instruments speciality. In the mid 1980's the Cornish based business tapped into the needs of the water utility companies and hasn't looked back since.
When the company started over forty years ago, they originally designed and produced a range of electronic products for a mixed market. However, when the Water Pollution Research Laboratory approached Partech with the proposal of working together to produce instruments for measuring water quality, Partech agreed that this change could benefit the company and to this day, manufacturing water quality instruments remains the core of the company's business.
Partech was also given a golden handshake into the water treatment industry when the UK's water companies privatised, reducing labour on treatment plants. This resulted in Partech inventing a range of self cleaning sensors, this included the most well-known range of TurbiTech sensors. These sensors have been continually developed into the market which has led to the creation of the TurbiTechw² range, a product very much in demand within the industry. Partech now supply most of the UK water companies.
Robin Brinckley, Financial Director of Partech says, “it's not only our excellent service but also our unique products that set us apart from other companies. Opportunities are emerging as a result and we anticipate that we will expand into more overseas markets. We currently deal with various countries in Europe, China and South Korea.
The company also 'borrowed' the tech culture of knowledge sharing. In their open, direct and entrepreneurial culture, the staff and board of directors sit together in the same open-office environment.
“I ask myself, “what makes us successful and why are we so different from our competitors?” says Robin. “I came to realise it was empowerment.” When Partech has interviews for new members of staff they ensure that they hire people with the right skills, and that they have a 'can do' attitude, that is essentials to the company, which will help them to continue producing quality products and high levels of service.
