Aerospace and engineering in Cornwall

Newquay Cornwall Airport is a former military base and the UK's newest commercial airport. The airport offers large areas of land available for constraint free development. There are already a number of leading industry companies established at the airport who benefit from uncongested airspace which is ideal for flight testing and mission training.

Skills development 

The Aviation Learning Centre, led by the industry is being created to develop further engineering skills both locally and nationally. 

A joint venture with the Airport, Lufthansa Resource Technical Training (LRTT) and Newquay for Excellence Training (NfET) has been set up to develop a “learning centre” on site offering aviation entry and maintenance qualifications.

In May 2011 LRTT started an initial academy for 12 engineering apprentice students with the initial modules of the programme being undertaken at NCA. This pilot is being funded from ESF Convergence.
